A Video Baby monitor should be a must have on your baby shopping list. Here is why…
Baby monitor comes in the top spot when you are making a list of all your must-haves before bringing the baby into your life. These are indeed very useful and smart invention. No more running about the house just to check whether the baby is still asleep or needs you. You will find ease of mind once you have put one of these near the baby and another one with you. You can easily go around the house carrying out your chores with ease and peace of mind.

The basic sound monitor is quite simple. It transmits sounds and voice through radio signals. These radio signals are generally different for every gadget and these assure that your sounds are not being transmitted to anyone else. The initial ones were only the sounds and light, etc. Technology works for making things better, the same thing has happened here too.

Now, you will find all sorts of absolutely useful features associated with baby monitors. You will not require being present at the baby’s bedside and restrict your daily activities. Instead you can go about the house carrying the portable baby monitor and doing your job. You will need to be with your baby only when you hear your baby is up. For those parents who want to keep an eye on their baby at certain intervals without having to visit his room can actually view their baby. This is possible with the help of video baby monitors.

There are many features associated with infant video monitors also. It can croon a soft lullaby to your baby or entertain him with soft light. If you want to talk to your baby without moving from your place you can do so with the two-way transmit feature, so baby will hear your voice and feel reassured and safe. There is another feature that can alert you when baby is awake, simply turn off the sound and turn on the light, the blinking light will tell you whenever your baby wants your attention.

There are also the technologically advanced baby monitors. These have multi-function usage like measuring humidity, temperature, etc. inside the baby’s room. Apart from showing you life video image of your baby these can also shuffle between each room, if you have multiple cameras installed. These also have the night-vision feature and so you get to view your baby even if the room is dark.

Most of these monitors offer you flexibility. You can plug it on to the electric connection or you can also put batteries and make it portable. Some have both features. You will need to find out more about every monitor by checking out technical specifications. Since there are many companies manufacturing these gadgets and each one has tried to make the gadget more useful than the other.

Price range of the baby monitor

These differ according to the features. Most expensive one would be the video baby monitor and the least expensive one is the one which transmits sound just one way. The lowest prices start from less than $20 to highest prices being more than $150.

Though these are expensive, the peace of mind and ability to help you check on your baby from time to time, is invaluable. Therefore, a video baby monitor is a must-have in your baby list.

If you are about to have a baby or you or your family is planning to have a baby, the purchase of accessories for your new addition can prove to be an expensive but exciting experience. When shopping for baby strollers you might want to look into convenience strollers. Convenience strollers, commonly known as lightweight strollers, can make life easier because they’re not as cumbersome as the larger strollers which are now found at most stores. Convenience strollers allow you a major convenience for transporting your child from one place to another with a lighter, more versatile counterpart to the full size stroller.

Convenience strollers are one type of lightweight stroller and many have built into them accessories or features which are common to full sized strollers. One such feature you may find in a convenience stroller is the one handed closing mechanism. With just a quick flick of the wrist you can have your convenience stroller folded up into an easy to store position and ready to be used again when you need it. Another feature you can find is a canopy which can help keep your baby protected from the sun or rain drops if you need to be out in the rain. And, like their larger counterparts, the canopies are quite often adjustable or removable for added versatility.

Many convenience strollers can be used from birth in that they allow for a fully reclined seating position. If you do use this type of stroller for your very young baby, make sure to use an infant head support for your little one to help keep him or her comfortable. Most convenience strollers are mainly targeted for children who are able to sit up and hold their heads up and can usually accommodate children who weigh up to 40lbs, so you will get quite a bit of use from this style of stroller, both in the mall and out in the park. And the locking wheels help keep the stroller immobile when you need the stroller to be stopped.

There are some convenience strollers which have additional travel accessories such as cup holders, trays (or consoles), and large storage baskets. These items are useful especially when out for a day at the mall or traveling via plane or train. The convenience stroller is much easier to travel with since it is lighter and less bulky and therefore takes up less space on a plane or train or in your vehicle. And as previously mentioned, convenience strollers usually have a one handed closing mechanism which can help you close the stroller quickly if you are in a hurry boarding your plane. You can feel confident that years later you will not have to buy another piece of equipment or accessories to go along with the stroller.

So keep in mind, if you are planning a family outing or are traveling with a little one, consider a convenience stroller. Why lug around a large full sized stroller when you can have everything you need whether you are in your car, home, or hotel? Convenience strollers always live up to their name.

There are cases when a mother gives birth to not just one or two children at a time, but even three or four. For the mother who gives birth to three babies at the same time, she has given birth to triplets. For four babies at a time, the mother has given birth to quadruplets. Now you can imagine how hard it will be to be able to take care of the new babies. But now with items such as the triplet and quad strollers, at least there will be some help for the mother.

The Triplet Stroller

In the world of strollers, now available are triplet strollers and quad strollers. The triplet stroller has three baby seats. There are two designs of triplet strollers. One is designed in a way that the babies are lined up vertically and one where the babies are lined up horizontally.

In reality, mothers or nannies who do not necessarily have triplets can also use the triplet strollers. It could be used for babies of different ages as long as they still fit inside the stroller. It could even be used for caretakers in day care centers or other baby-sitting businesses.

The Quad Strollers

The quad strollers can accommodate four babies at a time. Just like triplet strollers, the quad strollers are available in different designs. There are quad strollers that are designed in a ways that babies are lined up vertically. There are also those designs where the babies are seated two in front and two at the back.

The quad strollers make it easy for multiple baby-sitting accommodations. Parents or caretakers can make use of the quad strollers to place four babies in at a time.

What to Look for

Since the triplet strollers and quad strollers carry multiple babies, there should be criteria in buying the item. Here are the things that you should look for:

1. Quality of materials. When selecting triplet strollers and quad strollers, you need to see if the materials used do not easily break. For the fabric, it should not easily rip off as well. Besides, it is worth the cost since the usage of the strollers will be for a long time, accommodating babies ages zero to their late toddlers years.

2. Easy to maneuver. Since you are carrying many babies in the stroller, the design or the stroller that you buy should make it easy for you to maneuver. It should turn easily and should be as flexible as possible. It must also be easily maneuvered in different surfaces and terrains.

3. The triplet strollers and quad strollers should have spacious storage that can be filled with those things that your babies will need. Whether it is beneath the stroller or below the seat, the storage space should carry enough items for all your babies.

4. Although generally triplet strollers and quad strollers look bulky, you should choose one that can be folded for easy storage or travel. This way, it will not take too much space at home, in the day care center or in the car.

With these needed features, you will not only accommodate all your babies in one stroller, but you will also meet your needs in terms of convenience and at the same time your babies will feel comfortable riding on their stroller.

Baby strollers were once a sign of influence and prestige. Baby strollers have now evolved into baby travel systems and they have been catapulted into necessary modern conveniences. Baby strollers come in many types and forms, all designed according to the manner in which they will be used. There are several categories into which a baby stroller can be placed, such as single strollers, double strollers, triple strollers, jogging strollers, and baby travel systems. There are baby travel systems available for parents no matter what gender your child is or what kind of lifestyle you lead. You will be able to transport your little one easily from point A to point B using these versatile tools.

Most baby travel systems include a baby stroller, an infant car seat and a car seat base which are all color and fabric coordinated. A common feature of baby travel systems is that the car seat can be used in many ways – either secured in the vehicle using the seatbelt, secured in the vehicle using the car seat base, as a child carrier outside of the vehicle, or locked securely in place in the stroller. When used in this manner, your infant can sleep undisturbed while being moved from the car to the stroller, and you can be on your way with less stress and a well-rested baby.

The most common baby stroller to be packaged in a baby travel system is a standard full sized stroller. This type of stroller has a single seat and may or may not have the ability to adjust the height of its handlebars, a five point harness to keep your little one safely in the seating area, and several areas for storing baby’s items such as an under seat basket and parent tray. Most standard baby strollers can weigh approximately 25 pounds but some can weigh as much as 35 to 40 pounds. Many parents can find this size stroller a bit cumbersome and difficult to store.

If you do not want a full sized stroller, there are some travel systems which come with a lightweight stroller in place of the full-sized standard stroller. Lightweight strollers give the convenience of a full-size stroller but weigh in only around 10 to 15 pounds. These lightweight strollers can be folded up easily and can carry a toddler, some even up to 55 pounds, and they have many of the features their full sized counterparts have – under seat baskets, cup holders, snack trays, etc.

Finally, some baby travel systems can have a jogging stroller as part of the package. If you have an active, on the go lifestyle, this type may be the one for you. Jogging strollers tend to handle any terrain but sometimes are a little more difficult to fold and store.

No matter which style stroller you choose to be part of your purchase, it is important to consider how you will use each component of the baby travel system so you ensure that this purchase works for you and your family.

Car seats are one of the most important things that new parents buy for their babies. While they are a hassle to install and sometimes cumbersome to have on hand, in the event of a crash, they are the only thing that stands between your baby and serious or even fatal injury. As you shop for, install, and use a car seat, keep these basic safety tips in mind.

Correct Installation Is Essential

The most important factor in using a car seat safely, other than choosing the right car seat for your child’s developmental stage, is to install the car seat correctly. Read the owner’s guide before you attempt installation. If your car is equipped with the LATCH tether system, use it, as this is the safest way to install a car seat. Make sure the car seat is at the correct angle, as dictated by the owner’s manual. Once you have a seat installed, have a car seat technician inspect it. Your hospital or local health department should be able to direct you to a place where you can have this inspection done, and they are usually free.

Watch the Weight Limits

All car seats have height and weight limits, which are on a sticker somewhere on the seat as well as in the owner’s manual. Make sure you know what these are. Most rear-facing infant carrier type car seats are only made to carry a child who is less than 25 pounds. If your baby is larger than average, a convertible car seat may be necessary to keep your child rear facing until she is one, as she will more than likely outgrown the carrier style seat.

Avoid Used Car Seats

Used car seats may seem like a good deal, but the truth is that you do not know about the seat’s history. If the car seat has been in an accident, it may look perfectly safe, but it could have been damaged. Car seats are not intended to be used after a crash. Also, used seats usually do not have instructions. They may also have parts missing that you do not know about just by looking at the seat. If your budget forces you to purchase a used car seat, only buy from a trusted source and check the manufacturer’s website to assure all parts are included.

Under 1 Year – Rear Facing Is Best

All infants who are under the age of one and weigh 20 pounds or less must be rear facing. You can put your child in a forward facing seat once both these conditions have been met. However, it is safest to keep the child rear facing as long as you possibly can. The convertible seat will still be safe for your child’s height and age. Your child’s legs will be cramped, but this does not mean he is not safe. If you feel you must turn the seat around, make sure the child is both one year old and weighs more than 20 pounds.

If you follow these guidelines you will be able to help keep your baby safe while traveling in your car.

A convertible infant car seat, also known as an infant-toddler car seat, is one that can be used for both newborn infants as well as larger toddlers. Purchasing a convertible seat can save you money as it is the only seat you will have to purchase for your infant and toddler. If you already own an infant only seat, buying a convertible infant car seat will allow you to keep your young child in the rear facing position longer than transitioning to a toddler seat.

For newborns and small infants, you have two seat choices for your car: infant only seats and convertible infant car seats. The infant only seat is only rear facing and can generally hold an infant from 5 lbs to 22 lbs (depending on the seat manufacturer). These rear facing car seats are generally lighter than the convertible infant car seat, and many of them attach to a base that stays in the car, allowing you to carry your infant in them. The convertible infant car seat can stay in the rear facing position from about 5 lbs to 32 lbs (depending on the seat manufacturer). It is recommended that infants stay in the rear facing position until they are at least 20 lbs and a year old, but it is better for the infant to stay in this position as long as the seat manufacturer limits aren’t exceeded. So, with a convertible infant car seat, your infant can stay in the rear facing position much longer.

There are also two basic types of seats to choose from for your toddler: toddler only seats and convertible infant car seats. Toddler car seats are forward facing seats, and can be used when your infant is older than 1 year and over 20 lbs. Although these are safe for your young toddler, it would be best to keep them in the rear facing position as long as possible (without going over manufacturer weight limits). A convertible infant car seat can be converted from a rear facing seat to a forward facing seat when your child becomes heavier. The convertible seat will allow you to keep your infant is the safer rear facing position longer.

If you prefer purchasing the infant only seats due to size and/or convenience, you will still need to get a second seat when your infant outgrows the first seat (over 22 lbs for most infant only seats). You can purchase a forward facing toddler seat, or you can purchase a convertible infant car seat. Purchasing a convertible seat will allow you to keep your infant in the safer rear facing position longer (generally about an extra 10 lbs), but still allow you to have the forward facing seat. There are now even some convertible infant car seats that have a booster seat attachment, so you can use the same seat from 5 lbs all the way up to 80 lbs.

One of the favorite things for parents to do is watching their beautiful baby as he or she is peacefully sleeping. Parents do this partly to make sure they are seeing the gentle rise and fall of their chest that indicates everything is okay. It’s natural for parents to worry about their babies. After putting a baby in his or her bed for a nap or for the evening, parents often come back to check, double-check, and then check on the baby again to make sure everything is okay and for their peace of mind. But, with the many high quality baby monitors available, parents now can have a set of ears in their baby’s room the entire time their baby is asleep which brings extra peace of mind and comfort to busy parents.

A baby monitor is actually a radio transmitter that allows you to listen in on your little one at all times of the day and night. Monitors are compact, two-part gadgets. There is a transmitter that is placed near the sleeping baby (but well out of reach of the baby) and a receiver that the parents keep near them. The receiver will amplify any noise your baby makes.

Reception-range and designs vary. Some allow you to speak softly to your baby through an intercom; others have built in cameras so you can not only hear your baby but see him or her as well. Some monitors show sounds via a light display so you can monitor your baby even when the volume is turned off. In addition, some models have an optional sensor pad that monitors your baby’s breathing, and sounds an alarm if no movement is detected.

Baby monitors are very useful. Anytime your baby gets up from sleep, whether it is because he or she is hungry, need to be changed, or is just ready for comfort and interaction from you, a baby monitor lets you know instantly that your baby is starting to wake up or is awake. The biggest advantage of a baby monitor is that it offers parents an added element of safety and security. Parents can cook a meal, do laundry, or any of the 1,001 things that need to be done at home without having to worry about their baby. They can even step outside on to the patio to take in some sunshine and take a break without having to worry about whether or not they’ll hear their baby when he or she wakes up. When your baby is peacefully asleep, you know he or she is totally safe because your baby monitor will alert you the moment your little one needs you. According to one Mom in San Francisco,” My listening unit is the most important device at home. I don’t go anywhere without it.”

Even though baby monitors are wonderful devices and seem indispensable, they have their shortcomings. Interference from cordless phones and concrete walls sometimes sets off a false alarm, which means that you may be hearing things that are not there. Some monitors pick up transmissions from other baby monitors that are nearby and give you a minor heart attack while you rush to your baby’s side.

Important features to look for in a baby monitor:

- Compactness: A compact model is lightweight and easy to carry around.

- Sound-activated light: Sometimes, other children may accidentally turn the volume off. Alternatively, if you are watching TV or talking on the phone you may miss your baby’s cries if this feature is not present.

- Low-battery warning: If your batteries are low on life, you may not hear your baby.

- Right bandwidth: Some high-end models offer a wide bandwidth for better clarity.

- Video display – this is a great feature although it’s not necessary and adds to the cost of the baby monitor. But it’s great to be able to see an image of your baby along with being able to hear him or her.

SIDS is the most bewildering and heartbreaking thing that can happen to your newborn. Sudden Death Syndrome (SIDS) is defined as occuring within the first year of your baby’s life for no apparent reason. If this happens and their recovery mechanisms are not developed they won’t be able breathe for themselves if they are deprived of oxygen.

Sudden Death Syndrome deaths have decreased in the last few years. There is not any way to know or predict if a baby is at risk for SIDS. By being deligient and keeping your environment safe for your baby will help to prevent SIDS.

You should put your baby on their back to sleep for the first year of their life. You can use baby pillow wedges to prevent them from rolling over. When sleeping on their side be sure and prop their arm up to prevent them from rolling over onto their stomach.

Check your baby’s bedding and make sure that it is not loose or too fluffy. Make sure you keep their face unobstructed. Be sure you don’t wrap them up too tightly to get overheated. It is not a good idea to smoke around your baby or to let anyone else smoke around your baby. You will want to get a firm mattress and a safety approved crib. Use a baby movement monitor that fits under your baby’s mattress to monitor your baby’s breathing. These monitors are very good to use for premature babies. It will sound an alarm if your baby stops breathing alerting you to possible danger.

There are some indications when you would want to use a baby movement monitor. If your baby has had any life threatening episodes such as turning blue or if they had to be resuscitated. Another reason to use a monitor would be if they had an older sibling who died of SIDS. And of course another reason would be if they were premature.

If any of the above reasons have occured you may want to consider using a baby movement monitor as a added measure to monitor their breathing especially while they are sleeping. To insure that their lungs are fully developed keep all their doctor appointments and make sure they have all their immunizations. Creating a safe environment for your baby is the best way you can keep them safe.
